Blog Three May U of M Graduates Receive Presidential Appointments Share This Post Government / National News / Politics Three May U of M Graduates Receive Presidential Appointments By redkudzu_admin on July 3rd 2014 No Comments / 144 views July 3, 2014 – Three May graduates of the University of Memphis have accepted presidential appointments for full-time positions with the Obama administration that last until January 2017. Fatima Noor will be a special assistant in the Office of the Director for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services in the Department of Homeland Security beginning July 28. Noor majored in psychology with minors in Spanish and international relations. She recently completed a month-long research fellowship in psychology hosted by Carnegie-Mellon and the University of Pittsburgh; her research will be ongoing for this program. Noor was a leader in many honor societies at the U of M. She has done volunteer work with World Relief Memphis and the Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition. Chimene Okere has begun work as a special assistant in the Office of Capital Access at the U.S. Small Business Administration. His responsibilities include assisting small business owners with acquiring financial resources and managing a community development portfolio that focuses on economically disadvantaged clients. He majored in economics with a minor in Italian. Okere studied in Italy in 2012 and in summer 2013 he attended The Fund for American Students in Washington, D.C.
