Blog Buzz Words, Catch Phrases and Names Share This Post Misc Buzz Words, Catch Phrases and Names By The Patriot on May 10th 2016 No Comments / 172 views How often do we read a word and blow by it because we’ve vaguely seen it before? Unfortunately and sadly enough, it happens every day. Although we may generally understand the inference in the context of how it is being used, we never fully understand its meaning or the potential impact it may have. Yesterday, when reading an article on the Bloomberg Financial site, I came across such a word in the title and out of curiosity, I went searching for its meaning. So, I thought it might be enlightening and fun to take a look at some of today’s most popular buzz words, phrases and titles and dig into their actual meaning. Here goes: Populism and populist: This is defined as the people being upset with political parties within a country and as a result, speak out against them. We are seeing it here in our country as the people have been loudly proclaiming their dissatisfaction with their party’s and the government. This excerpt from a Bloomberg article provides a great example: “Austria joined the ranks of countries thrown into turmoil by a revolt against establishment parties, adding to the rise in political uncertainty as populism reverberates across the western world.” MX: The Urban Dictionary definition: “The gender neutral or gender queer formal pronoun, like Mr. or Mrs.” It is being used before a person’s surname or full name who prefer to avoid specifying their gender or by those who prefer not to identify themselves as male or female. I was surprised to learn, banks are planning to introduce the honorific ‘Mx’ as an alternative for anyone who feels that they no longer fit in the Mr. or Mrs. category. Political Correctness (PC): This is one for the ages……. Wikipedia Defined: “Political correctness is a term which, in modern usage, is used to describe language, policies, or measures which are intended not to offend or disadvantage any particular group of people in society.” As we have watched the use of PC evolve over the past 20 years or so, it has become a raging lion used more as a piercing weapon to control actions and speech rather than to ensure civility when required, which is contrary to its very definition. Brexit: The abbreviation for the potential “British exit”, refers to the possibility of Britain’s withdrawal from the European Union. The “Brexit” debate has divided Britons, who are split on whether the strategic benefits of membership in the European Union outweighs the costly bureaucracy and erosion of England’s national sovereignty. The vote is scheduled for June 23rd. Islamophobia: Oxford Dictionary defined: “Dislike of or prejudice against Islam or Muslims, especially as a political force.” Like political correctness, this term is being used as a weapon to silence people from expressing their concerns over a religious group of people who in part, have demonstrated a tendency toward aggressiveness or violence. As they continue to proselytize, push for Sharia Law and refuse to assimilate into society in this country, I fear it will only get worse. Communitarianism: “Is a 20th Century political doctrine which emphasizes the interest of communities and societies over those of the individual.” Basically, individuals subsume (are absorbed into) and live and work for the better good of the community and the state. This term is never used by the media and seldom used outside of insider circles. As we continue to move further away from the Constitution and a Republic, we are subjecting ourselves to Socialism which ultimately demands communitarianism to ensure its progression to a total communal and most likely, communist society. Coyote: At first glance you may think I’m referring to a four-legged animal, but that is the farthest from the truth. A coyote is a person illegal immigrants pay to bring them up from Mexico to our southern border and sneak them across. Being a coyote is a huge, lucrative business and has become a well-established industry in Mexico. Sustainable Development: Here’s an understandable definition: “Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” It involves the overlapping of the economy, the environment and social community. Basically, we must make major sacrifices across the board to meet the world’s future needs, i.e. reduction in fossil fuel use, alternative power sources (solar and wind), water conservation and moving off of and returning the land back to its natural state. Although not a total, all inclusive list, you get the idea. Narcissist: Mayo Clinic defined: “Narcissistic personality disorder is a mental disorder in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance, a deep need for admiration and a lack of empathy for others. But behind this mask of ultraconfidence lies a fragile self-esteem that’s vulnerable to the slightest criticism.” This word is used derogatorily more than any other in the news and on Social Media to assign this label or to describe someone they do not like or want to put down in the eyes of others (to sway them to their way of thinking). Yes, several politicians exhibit narcissistic traits and are widely presumed to be, but most are just panderers attempting to rise above the others. White Privilege: Wikipedia Defined: “White privilege (or white skin privilege) is a term for societal privileges that benefit people identified as white in Western countries, beyond what is commonly experienced by non-white people under the same social, political, or economic circumstances.” This is a term born out of the rise of the Black Lives Matters movement. As I reviewed various definitions of it on Google, it became clear the claim itself is vague and is being used as a wedge for political argument by non-whites. I get the sense and for whatever perceived reason, it is being used, primarily, to further racially divide this country. Globalization and globalist: Webster’s Definition: “The act or process of globalizing: the state of being globalized; especially, the development of an increasingly integrated global economy marked especially by free trade, free flow of capital, and the tapping of cheaper foreign labor markets.” This is where our government is taking us at break-neck speed to ensure we fall in line with Socialist Europe and the UN’s goal of fully globalized society. Open Borders: As has become blatantly obvious since late last year, borders are collapsing and being eliminated around the world, as a result of the UN’s Agenda 21 and 2030 programs to have continental governments rather than individual countries. Europe is being invaded and coming under siege based on the guise of Syrian refugee migration. We have watched as our southern border has all but disappeared and movement from Mexico continues to go unabated and unchallenged. New World Order: Wikipedia defined: “New World Order may refer to a New World Order (conspiracy theory), a conspiracy theory referring to the emergence of a totalitarian one world government.” This definition raised my eyebrows just a little. It is way beyond a ‘conspiracy theory’ or is it, only time will tell! A few things are obvious, the UN is pushing countries to invest more heavily in the current World Bank, the UN is becoming more involved in acting as a policing force in countries around the world. The UN has been training troops from various countries around the world (including Russia) in the U.S. for the past five years or so, open borders and globalization of the world’s economy, have many people speculating on where it is actually heading and what the end game really is. Justice Involved: The Department of Justice recently announced it is no longer referring to criminals convicted of crimes as “convicted criminals,” preferring instead to coin the new phrase and call them , “justice involved.” Call it what they will……they are still just common criminals! Home Invasion: As a staunch Second Amendment supporter, this is one of my favorites. Criminals are no longer called criminals, thugs and robbers who break into homes can longer be called robbers and break-ins must be referred to as a Home Invasion. Good grief, give me a break! A robber is a robber! So, I call 9-11 and say: I just experienced a ‘Home Invasion’ and I shot the ‘Justice Involved’ individual that committed the home invasion! Open Marriage: Marriage fidelity has been overcome by the ‘It’s all about me’ attitude in today’s very liberal and progressive society. To ensure no guilt-laden or harmful stigma is attached to their adultery, they came up with the new self-gratifying term, “open marriage”. That way, they can comfortably legitimize running around on their spouses, both sexes! Investments: When I came across this one, it totally caught me by surprise. Politicians in Washington have grown tired of criticism and prefer not to be accused of ‘robbing taxpaying citizens’, so they now refer to it as “investments.” How clever! Mentally Impaired: This one keeps popping up on the radar in various subject-mattered articles and is becoming more problematic and troubling. The trend appears to always be the same, to take Second Amendment rights away from some segment of the population. Those who are medically diagnosed with a legitimate mental illness, veterans whether they have been diagnosed or not and the latest in the last couple of weeks; senior citizens (no differentiation in medical status). With Obamacare, came new patient survey/questionnaire requirements: do you feel threatened at home, are you or have you ever been depressed or felt suicidal? Doctors are required to record our responses and enter them into the database. What it will be used for is anybodies guess. Mental illness is a very easy target for the anti-Second Amendment crowd, whether you are mentally healthy or not. Leave a Reply Cancel ReplyYou must be logged in to post a comment.
